The UC Irvine Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Care provides a
continuum of care throughout the perioperative period, from preoperative
evaluation to post operative pain management, and as the only Level 1
Trauma Center in Orange County serves more than three million people in
the Southern California region.
The Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Care is currently experiencing a renaissance
with the arrival of our new chair, Zeev N Kain, MD, MBA, who joined the
department in March 2008. Under his leadership the department is
growing, creating a vibrant environment that supports exceptional
clinical care, significant breadth and depth for education, and cutting
edge research.
We are excited by the changes underway, the end result of which will be
a powerhouse department that emphasizes patient safety and care,
training the next generation of anesthesiologists and supporting
research programs dedicated to both basic and translational projects.
Message from the Chair
In the few months I have spent as the Chair of the Department of
Anesthesiology at UCIrvine, I have been most impressed with the quality
of care our department provides and the quality of our faculty and
residents. We are currently working to reorganize the department to
better support our excellent clinicians, researchers, and, critically,
our residents. Our program is strong, but the immediate future will
bring many new and exciting programs and opportunities for both faculty
and residents.
Our vision for the Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Care is to achieve excellence
in perioperative medicine through superior clinical care and advance
knowledge through cutting edge research and world-class education by
establishing a fiscally responsible, positive culture within the
department and through collaborative efforts within the University of
California School of Medicine and New University Hospital. This vision
will be fostered by focusing on 5 Core Goals: Excellence in Clinical
Care, Excellence in Education, Excellence in Research, Positive Identity
and Culture, and Fiscal Strength.
I look forward to rolling out our strategic plan and new program
opportunities with our new website in August, in the mean time, ask that
you “pardon our dust” in the existing site.
Sincerely,
Zeev N. Kain, MD, MBA
