Harvard Anesthesiologist to Lead the Pain Management Program at UC Irvine Health

We are delighted to announce that Padma Gulur, MD, has accepted the position of director of pain services at UC Irvine Health, effective July 7, 2014. Gulur comes to us from Massachusetts General Hospital’s Harvard Medical School, where she served as director of inpatient pain services, pediatric pain service and palliative care service, as well as director of the Center for Pain Medicine at Waltham. At Massachusetts General Hospital she started the acute pain service and pediatric pain service, and opened an outpatient pain center. She also led the pain management care redesign initiative at Massachusetts General Hospital.

Dr. Gulur’s clinical interests include the treatment of acute, chronic and cancer-related pain with a focus on interventional spine treatments. Her research focuses on opioid tolerance and the optimal care of high risk populations.

She brings a great breadth of experience and deep understanding to the design and implementation of sustainable pain management care delivery systems, and has won numerous awards for excellence in pain management, patient care and safety, and new program development.

Dr. Gulur is board certified in anesthesiology and pain medicine. She received her medical degree from Bangalore Medical College, and completed her residency in anesthesiology at Boston University and a fellowship in pain medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School.

Dr. Gulur will oversee all pain services throughout UC Irvine Medical Center and Gottschalk Medical Plaza, and will develop new pain management care delivery models for UC Irvine Health.
