April 29, 2020 - In the Press

Leading the project to produce a new type of high-grade, protective mask are UC Irvine physicians; anesthesiologist, Dr. Melissa Chang and dermatology resident physician, Dr. Aditi Sharma. The new masks are made from sterilization wraps typically discarded after one use at hospitals. These sterilization wraps can be used in masks that can filter up to 87% of particles, which is almost as effective as N95 masks, which have a filtration efficiency of 95%.
