EDG and Colonoscopy

What to Expect for a EGD and Colonoscopy Procedure

Types of anesthesia

Sedation and general anesthesia back up, where you may or may not know what is going on when the procedure starts.

Day of discharge

You can be discharged same day or stay in the hospital.

What to expect after surgery and post-surgical care

  • You may experience bloating or pass gas
  • Resume your regular diet unless specific instructions was given
  • An upset stomach and occasional vomiting can occur. Please let your doctors (anesthesiologist and surgeon) know if you have history of nausea or experienced vomiting during a car ride or after surgery.

Activities (Please follow the detailed instructions given by your doctor)

No operating machinery after procedure for 24 hours

What to Expect for an ERCP

Types of anesthesia

  • General: where you will not know what is occurring when the surgery starts

Occasionally, you may experience a sore throat after surgery, but it should improve over the next 24 hours after surgery.

You can be discharged the same day or stay in the hospital.
