Combined Anesthesiology-Critical Care
Residency Program

Critical Care Residents PhotoThe American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA) has recently approved the Department of Anesthesiology & Periopeartive Care for the Combined Anesthesiology-Critical Care Residency Program. This is a five year integrated program that provides the required training towards the ABA certification in anesthesiology and critical care medicine.

Internal Medicine photoThe American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) and the American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA) have approved a combined Internal Medicine-Anesthesiology Residency Program at UC Irvine. This is a five year program that allows graduates to be qualified and board certified in both specialties. This program was jointly developed through collaboration between the Department of Anesthesiology & Perioperative Care and the Department of Medicine. There are now only five such programs in the country.


Simulation SessionEquipped with a high fidelity simulator, our small-scale simulation center and mobile simulation activities provides medical education, medical simulation research, perioperative needs training for faculty, residents, and nurses. Our unique combination of resources allows for private and in-situ simulations.

We invite all healthcare professionals to utilize this innovative Perioperative Simulation Center, and its wide range of educational opportunities, to learn well and to promote patient safety through evaluation of systems and practice.


Anesthesiolgists in ORPerioperative Surgical Home (PSH) is an innovative model of delivering healthcare during the entire patient surgical/procedural experience; from the time of the decision for surgery until patient recovery. Patients receive a more individualized service that is expertly coordinated by the PSH team across multiple departments and phases of care.
