With 65, we have a record number of presentations at the American Society of Anesthesiology Annual Meeting 2015. Moreover, 50% are oral and panel presentations and 15% are workshops. Twenty of our presentations are by residents, fellows, and medical students. Perioperative Surgical Home is a common theme for our projects and other topics include hemodynamics and non-invasive monitoring, Point-of-Care Ultrasonography, sharing Quality & Performance data, development of a mobile critical care information app, simulation for code blue training, web-based pediatric surgical preparation programs, and much more. The American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) and the American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA) have approved a combined Internal Medicine-Anesthesiology Residency Program at UC Irvine. This is a five year program that allows graduates to be qualified and board certified in both specialties. This program was jointly developed through collaboration between the Department of Anesthesiology & Perioperative Care and the Department of Medicine. There are now only five such programs in the country.
The American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA) has recently approved the Department of Anesthesiology & Periopeartive Care for the Combined Anesthesiology-Critical Care Residency Program. This is a five year integrated program that provides the required training towards the ABA certification in anesthesiology and critical care medicine.
Equipped with a high fidelity simulator, our small-scale simulation center and mobile simulation activities provides medical education, medical simulation research, perioperative needs training for faculty, residents, and nurses. Our unique combination of resources allows for private and in-situ simulations.
